QUESTION: Do We Still Need Bitcoin RPC After Genesis Block?

Hey team — I understand that to join from the genesis block, our follower node must connect to a Bitcoin RPC (like Ankr) so it can watch for the specific BTC block height and validate the genesis block at launch.

But here’s my confusion:

Once the genesis block is mined, do we still need to pass --btc-node-url for followers that join later?

Or can a new follower join after the chain starts without connecting to a Bitcoin node — just syncing from peers like a normal blockchain?

Trying to clarify if this BTC RPC requirement is only for launch timing or is a permanent dependency.

Thanks!

we plan to make mining work even if you don’t connect to a Bitcoin node

Thank you so much for the fast reply, I have just one more follow up question.

Does that mean:

  1. I can already join and mine after genesis without BTC RPC?
  2. Or should I wait until this feature is officially implemented?

Just want to know if I can safely skip the Bitcoin node step after genesis, or if it’s still required for now. and genesis block is like 10mins right?

Answer should be #1
